Special Needs Educator

Job Description
1. Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
2. Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
3. Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
4. Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
5. Participate in parental meetings and in-services to share student’s progress and academic development.
6. Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
7. Perform needs modification and accommodation for given materials for students to ensure proper comprehension and acquisition of concepts explained.
8. Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities.
9. Meet with Special Education team and other specialists to Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals.


Required Qualifications
• B.A. or M.A. in Educational Psychology, Psychology or any related field.
• Previous experience with dealing with students with special educational needs.
• Ability to work in team and share knowledge and information.
• Ability to participate in training for professional development.
• Previous experience in writing IEPs, screening, assessment and reporting.
 
Occupational Therapist

Job Description
1. Help students with various disabilities with different tasks, such as leading a child with autism in play activities.
2. Collaborate with other disciplines (special education, counseling, therapy) to ensure team understanding of student’s occupational performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning.
3. Evaluate the student’s ability and formulates the student’s occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, and interviews.
4. Develop occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
5. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
6. Provide targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student’s participation and occupational performance.
7. Educate student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation.
8. Provide continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, and parents.
9. Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective practices, and developing and implementing best practices.
10. Establish a professional growth plan and annually review the plan and progress with the administrator.


Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited college or university.
• Previous experience with students.
• Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff verbally and in writing.
• Has the adequate knowledge and experience in screening, assessment and reporting.
